Hello Luvvah!

why, oh why?!
Why is it that Sex and The City movie, the city being New York in US, does not open in US first?
London got the honours. Berlin has shown it. Even Singapore. Grr!
But finally it's here! Tomorrow. I can't wait!

Does she look like a terrorist to you?

The Boston Globe

Apparently some people think so. She is Rachel Ray, a famous American TV chef known for her her girl-next-door appeal. Here she is in a Dunkin Donuts ad wearing a black & white, paisley scarf which some eagle-eyed, boh liao observers say resembles a keffiyeh. Faced with threatened boycotts and negative press, Dunkin Donuts decided to yank the ad.

Source

This is a keffiyeh.

which so happens to be a traditional Arab headgear worn for centuries to protect the wearer from desert sands. A keffiyeh might be culturally linked with Arabs but it is also a fashion staple for them and for fashionistas some seasons ago. To associate something worn daily with jihad and beheadings would be for Arabs to associate jeans with Americans and war.

One of the strongest voices against the Dunkin Donuts ad is Michelle Malkin, an American of Filipino descent. If terrorists had worn Phillipines' national costume, barong tagalog, to attack Americans, would she have reacted in the same manner and condemned her own cultural symbol? It is easy to cast the first stone but the world is messy enough without more senseless make-a-mountain-out-of-molehill crap like this.

Source

Anyways, she can rant against Dunkin but she is too late against the world. Keffiyehs became fashionable seasons ago.

Read about the Dunkin hooha here.

It always fascinated me how people go from loving you madly to nothing at all, nothing. It hurts so much. When I feel someone is going to leave me, I have a tendency to break up first before I get to hear the whole thing. Here it is. One more, one less. Another wasted love story.
I really love this one. When I think that it's over, that I'll never see him again like this... well yes, I'll bump into him, we'll meet our new boyfriend and girlfriend, act as if we had never been together, then we'll slowly think of each other less and less until we forget each other completely. Almost. Always the same for me. Break up, break down. Drunk up, fool around. Meet one guy, then another, fuck around. Forget the one and only. Then after a few months of total emptiness start again to look for true love, desperately look everywhere and after two years of loneliness meet a new love and swear it is the one, until that one is gone as well.
There's a moment in life where you can't recover any more from another break-up. And even if this person bugs you sixty percent of the time, well you still can’t live without him. And even if he wakes you up every day by sneezing right in your face, well you love his sneezes more than anyone else's kisses.

~ From DimSum Dolly who quoted 2 Days in Paris

In a marriage, men are more well-adjusted. When a woman decides it's time to marry, she will hassle her boyfriend to do so but years later, they are the ones who feel the itch. When a man decides to say yes, he knows what he is in for and is fully committed for the long term.

~ From a friend

!@#$%&&@#@$

I know I don't sleep early,
so I spent one hour packing last night,
so I can sleep in this morning.

The plan was to wake at 7am.
Then someone decided to set the alarm earlier
cos he haven't packed.
And wake me up.
Dammit.

I only had 9.5 hours of total sleep this weekend!

On the plus side, I fly to San Jose today. yay!

Wonder if the latest it hairstyle is your thing? Use Instyle's new tool to make up your mind. There are many many celebrity hairstyles you can 'try out'. They also classify the site by styles and occasions so it's really easy to navigate. I tried 4 familiar celebrities' hair. Can you guess whose hair I have?

Looks like blonde or big curls aren't my thing. I will stick to my borin bob+growing out bangs. I wish the site has Asian celebrities too.

How to waste your time

Step 1: Register. Simple. Just need email and password.

Step 2: Upload a picture of your face.

Step 3: Choose a hairstyle you like.

Step 4: Save your makeover picture.

If you don't wish to show your friends, stop here. If you want to blog about it, go to Step 5.

Step 5: Print to pdf and save to your computer.

Step 6: Open the pdf and use the snapshot tool to copy the picture.

Step 7: Open Microsoft's Paint programme and paste your picture on it.

Step 8: Save picture as .jpg format.

I love friends who visit. Catching up with my friend and getting to know her friends were wonderful. Totally enjoy the hometown touch. Now that they are gone, I am homesick.

Before they left, I got cupcakes from them!

I love girls who love desserts and I love girls who would order a lot of sweets so we can pick off each other's plates. These cupcakes are less enjoyable without fighting over them. But who am I to complain? Yummies!
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! except me lah.

My mum-in-law busy in the kitchen.

So we snack on nuts and chocolates with wine while our tummies growl,

and camwhore.

Yay! Dinner's ready!

The cat can't wait.
A gang was chasing some guy across a few streets and finally shot him dead 3 houses down from ours. This was in the evening when there was still light. Couple of hours later, we came back from grocery shopping and found the street cordoned off. Which was when we got the news from our neighbours.

Gang members always roamed my street. They come out after dark so you don't see them but the next morning, you spot all the gang graffiti they leave behind. Still this has been a safe neighbourhood, until now. It's un-nerving for a murder to happen a few doors down your house. It's even more un-nerving that it happened in daylight. I sympathise with the house where the body was lying in blood in front. I remember seeing a boy and his nanny come home from school one day and entered the house there.

It's a good reason for us to get security but K doesn't think that it will help. Partly true cos when the alarm goes off, the security company sends one of their guys and not the police. Only when there is a real solid cause, do the security guys send for the police. Very roundabout way. I don't know. If we can't trust the security company or the police, who can we trust? Doesn't help that K flies away every week and only comes home during the weekend, leaving me alone in the house.

But at the end of it all, even if he is here, there is nothing much he can do either. I just hope this is a one time thing and not the start of more shootings. I should get a dog. A warm body around the house feels good.
damn suay, i simultaneously got cramps and a stomachache from eating bad quiche at a cafe. which left me groaning in pain and whining to k. when the tummyache subsided, i was hit by a sudden craving for KFC popcorn chicken. Not the food to recover from food poisoning but wth.

so i asked K to get me some on his way home from the airport. 1.5 hours later, i was starting to worry if he got into a car accident. when he finally reached home with this

and these! the sweet guy got medication for my upset tummy and 2 packs of chocolates for my cramps!

*feeling loved*

iLane's Brain Pattern

Your mind is a firestorm - full of intensity and drama.

Your thoughts may seem scattered to you most of the time.

But they often seem strong and passionate to those around you.

You are a natural influencer. The thoughts you share are very powerful and persuading.

Kelly's Brain Pattern

You're a simple thinker, and this is actually a very good thing.

You don't complicate matters when you don't have to.

You look for the simplest explanation or solution, and you go with that.

As a result, your mind is uncluttered and free of stress.

And then we tried the Superhero Quiz and Kelly's power is Mind Reading.
How can he be simple-minded AND be a mind reader?
This one's deep I tell you. That's true power. *nods in reverence*

Kelly's Super Power
Your Superpower Should Be Mind Reading

You are brilliant, insightful, and intuitive.
You understand people better than they would like to be understood.
Highly sensitive, you are good at putting together seemingly irrelevant details.
You figure out what's going on before anyone knows that anything is going on!

Why you would be a good superhero: You don't care what people think, and you'd do whatever needed to be done.

Your biggest problem as a superhero: Feeling even more isolated than you do now.

iLane's Super Power
Your Superpower Should Be Super Speed

You're quick witted and fast to act.
You're mind works at warp speed. From your perspective, everyone else is living in slow motion.
You get so much done, people have accused you of not sleeping.
Definitely not a couch potato, you feel a bit crazy if you're not busy doing something.

Why you would be a good superhero: You're be the first on the scene... and likely to finish the job before anyone else shows up

Your biggest problem as a superhero: Being bored by everyone else. Including other superheroes!

Notice the cartoon for mind-reading is a girl while the one for speed is a boy. Very telling of stereotypes. Had fun doing these bo liao quizzes cos the results are actually quite true!

USD34, hand-painted

USD54, hand-painted then hand-embroidered

Only for the brave! These bold and eye-catching tights are sure to turn heads. Love the twirls on the peacock design and the bright pop of blue against black. To draw your eye further, designs only appear on one leg. Do you dare?

Unfortunately these are the only images I can save but now you know how much the shoes cost. And if you are wondering why they cost so much, that's because designer Henrietta Rose from the London College of Fashion makes them from vintage Japanese kimono fabric. Now you know. These are pretty pretty shoes anyway. Just in time for summer!

Gladiator sandals are in now but you need long, lean and tanned legs to carry them off. If I had those legs, I would snap up these Sam Edelman Ginger Gladiators in a heartbeat.

I love fashion but sensible-me buys only cheap aka dispensable trends so I can move on to the next big thing. Let's take a poll here.

From May to August, households that reduce their energy consumption by 10% gets to participate in a lucky draw for a fuel-hybrid car.

1. Assuming there are 1 million households in Singapore and 5% of them reduce their energy consumption, that's still 1 in 50,000 of winning a car. Beats increasing utility prices when daily life is on the rise. I second this gentler approach but why only one prize for so many households? I geddit it. It's a bonus but hardly a motivation ya? One thing in its favour though: Chances of winning this are still better than buying 4D.

2. How about rewarding households whose consumption are consistently lower than national average? My parents are great advocates of saving water and electricity. Not one light is turned on longer than it should be in my house and expect a barrage of words when it is. My parents come home from work at 3pm and are in bed by 9pm. They only watch TV for 3 hours a day and seldom turn on the aircon except to check that it's still working and extremely hot nights. How do you reward households like this?

Hairband made of antique lace stitched on satin ribbon and hand-sewn with freshwater pearls. When I saw this, my jaw dropped! It matches my wedding venue so perfectly. Unfortunately I don't have USD625 to fritter away. But it seems really easy to replicate. Hmmm..

Source

Right from the start, this has been the vision for my wedding. I just heart birdcage veils and the accessory here. And since our wedding venue was completed in the 1920s, I am very keen on incorporating 20s elements as well. Won't a flapper bride be so cool? Alas, my impulsive buy of a gown is more Grace Kelly than Clara Bow. I digress. As I was regaling K with my ideas, his face took on a mask of horror and he blurted out "But we don't want a period wedding!".

Well, I do.

Do you see a burden or a support?

A dash of guilt,
Liberal sprinkling of responsibilty,
A whole lot of love,
You said I don't have to,
But I wish I was there for you.

I just want you to know this.

We had just confirmed our wedding date with our restaurant and after we stepped out, the unit number caught our eye. It's our wedding date!

browsing through Felicia Chin's blog today and learnt that Terence Cao has opened a hotpot restaurant at Paradiz Centre. I don't care for celebrity restaurants but I do care that they have wintermelon and sharks bone soup bases. Something different from the usual chicken or ma la soups. Most importantly, they are non-spicy which is great for me cos' much as I like the spicy kick of mala huo guo, 1 sip and I am downing glasses of ice water.

They also have some unique ingredients for dunking into hot soup like HK-style fried fish skin, sea urchin balls and 'char siew bao'. Felicia mentioned that she had a side dish of deep fried prawn balls with mango and cheese. What a yummy-sounding combination! and you can take off the heat with a home-brewed sugar cane payaya drink and my fav HK dessert - mango pomelo.

It all seems very promising. I am craving hotpot now. Can some kind soul try it and let me know if it's as good as it sounds? btw, pic above not taken at Terence's restaurant.
